Mikey's the best.

We love mikey.

Seriously... SO much.

If you want to shoot with the best, shoot with Mikey.

1) Favorite food, color, musician, tv show?

Anything pasta related, the tones of blue,
Sleeping at Last, what is tv?

2) There are a lot of professions out there… why photography?

I enjoy the various aspects of creating something different with each shoot. I am an introvert by nature, but being able to interact with other people to pull their personalities out in each shoot is really rewarding for me. I love the flexibility that photography gives me to spend time with my family, but do something I love to do at the same time.

3) What does it mean to “take pictures”?

To me, the phrase “take pictures” is simple. I enjoy capturing those moments that will never be seen again outside of that photo. Things change from one second to the next and it is fascinating to me to essentially stop time and be able to look back into history.

4) What’s your favorite thing to photograph?

Any parent will tell ya that their kids are their favorite, and I’m in that boat (I’m perfectly aware that is the easy way out of the answer). Mountains are awesome too… and easy since they don’t move on you like a herd of cats.

5) What’s your morning routine like?

I wake up early. Make myself some coffee, start a fire (in the winter) and dive into some reading until the family wakes up.

6) What was your childhood like? How did that play a part in your photography?

I don’t know if my childhood was anything special or variant from the norm. I have a large family, and we’re all our own varying degrees of crazy. I guess I just always gravitated towards and was fascinated by the art of photography, and when I realized I could pursue that to provide for my family it was a no-brainer.

7) What are some other passions you have?

I play guitar, and am learning my way around the cello. I bought a home that needed a lot of work, so some excess creativity goes into making our house into the home we
envisioned when we moved in.

8) What’s the best purchase under $50 you’ve ever made?

My wife is the bargain shopper in the family.

9) What keeps your creativity going?

Need. If I shut down for too long I go crazy. If I’m not creating with photography I’ll be writing music or redesigning something with the house. I find that long breaks are good to re-direct my creativity, but it is always funneled through something.

10) What does a typical portrait session with Mike look like?

I’m a pretty laid back, easy going human. Like I said, I’m an introvert, I’m not an “over-the-top” sort of personality. Each session is different, but getting my clients to relax and be who they are is always my goal.
